Sauce \ ˈsȯs (noun: a liquid or semi-liquid substance served with food to add moistness and flavour)
As the name suggests, The Sauce in Highbury, a relatively new fast food restaurant, has a menu with a selection of 28 different sauces – both sweet and savoury – to accompany their dishes. As a huge advocate of all things saucy, I was really excited to check this place out.
The restaurant itself is small (the size of your average chicken shop) yet charming with really friendly staff and good background music to bop along to while you eat.
I found myself spoilt for choice at the menu as everything sounded so appealing but we settled for a buttermilk fried chicken burger and a soft shell crab burger for mains with a variety of fillings (American cheese, jalapenos and a FRIED EGG to name a few). Those burgers were no joke, the chicken burger was succulent and tender and when you bit into the soft shell crab burger, it was perfectly crispy on the outside with juicy and flavoursome crab meat on the inside.
We still weren’t full so we decided to get Dutch Poffertjes with Biscoff spread and crumbs on top, as well as ice cream with popping candy and frozen mango. The Dutch Poffertjes were adorable bite-sized pancakes and the best way to end the meal and the ice cream-popping candy combination really appealed to my inner 10-year-old.
I would definitely recommend heading to The Sauce with some friends for affordable yet delicious diner-with-a-twist-style food.
